LOCATION
Le Rivier d'Ornon is a small hamlet situated on the climb between Bourg d'Oisans and the Col d'Ornon (8km uphill at an average gradient of 5%). We are only 10km from the foot of Alpe d'Huez. The chalet was once the primary school of Le Rivier d'Ornon, originally
a farming community, it is one of many hamlets that make up the commune (parish)
of Ornon. It is not uncommon to meet locals who were former pupils at the school,
including the last school mistress' son, who is a very keen (and strong!) cyclist himself. The stream that borders
the garden eventually travels down the valley to the Romanche River. Behind
the stream rises the impressive peak of the Taillefer mountain giving a stunning
backdrop to the building. The narrow streets, tiny chapel and beautiful stone
buildings of Rivier d'Ornon are full of French rural charm, a tranquil
and breathtaking location for your holiday.
