The Tour de France route for 2014 was announced by race organisers A.S.O. on 23rd October 2013. Whilst there is no Alpe d'Huez climb (we were spoiled in 2013 with the twin ascent), there are two great stages within very close reach; stages 13 and 14. The former, on Friday 18th July, starts in St Etienne and nips into the Chartreuse and over the col de Palaquit just outside Grenoble, before finishing at Chamrousse ski resort, one of our favourite XC ski venues. For spectators, this will be a fun place to watch as it is accessible from the chalet via the col de Luitel, a tiny track once used by the Tour. Stage 14, on Saturday 19th July, starts in Grenoble and will climb up the Romanche valley, past the bottom of the col d'Ornon, before heading over the cols du Lautaret and Izoard (via Briancon) then finishing at Risoul ski resort.
